For once, it was the journalists’ turn to attend a party without worrying about writing a deadline story about it later.
Panelists, student newsroom mentors and attendees gathered in the Donald W. Reynolds Center for American Art and Portraiture for an evening of drinks and networking before the 2010 Online News Association Conference begins.
Some remained glued to their smartphones or laptops, updating hyper-local websites and Twitter feeds.
Others spoke with representatives from “Ask America,” a Yahoo-based forum, who walked through the crowd with iPads asking for opinions on the impending midterm elections.
But a sense of excitement about the weekend’s workshops and panel discussions seemed to be on everyone’s mind.
